The Dream Killers
WHERE CORRUPTION THRIVES, DREAMS DIE. The Dreamkillers is a novel about big city corruption. Its main characters are three men and a woman: A young idealistic politician with Mayoral ambitions; a corrupt Mayor who reaps millions from bribes and kickbacks; the Mayor's morally-conflicted bagman -- who collects the Mayor's money -- and who is overly protective of his troubled son; and a voluptuous, manipulative assistant prosecutor with a zeal for good living.Leaving a late night meeting, the young politician encounters a mysterious woman on a dark road. He discovers later that she witnessed a particularly gruesome murder. With the crime-ridden city in an uproar over the murder, the Mayor is determined to do whatever is necessary to protect himself and his loot. He enlists the assistance of the Assistant Prosecutor, with whom the young politician is having a steamy affair, to pin the murder on him. The scheme fails. So the Mayor frames his bagman's son instead. But the bagman will go to any lengths to protect his son.In page after nail-biting page, The Dreamkillers weaves a classic tale of murder, greed, power, betrayal, naked ambition, lust, insanity, growth and redemption as it reveals how the tawdry layers of corruption in the city of Liberty limits the dreams of its innocent citizens, particularly its children.By Gerald Bishop
